The Grand Canyon

We had the James and James Grand Canyon experience!

James (Mike ) was on a mission to walk the Bright Angel Trail and try to get down to the Colorado. It was very hot and all four of us set off about 11am (Indian Reservation time not Arizona time!!! – very confusing) I was very slow as it was steps all the way down. James (Mike) got frustrated as he didn’t think he would make it so he and James (Chris) went off.
Ffi and I plodded on and made it to the 2nd water station – the 3 miles. We were very chuffed. We rested for a long while and then set off for the top. As we did so the heavens opened up and there was a deluge! Ffi and I hid under a rock overhang as the thunder and lightening was all around us – quite frightening at times.

We had company all the way to the top with a lovely family, Jeff and Elena and their children Anthony and Katarina. Chatting away certainly takes the mind off the slog. Ffi skipped along with the others and never moaned once.

Well James and James, those well known photographers had a tale to tell; Unfortunately the heat and the time prevented them from reaching their goal – the river but on the way they ran into plenty of wild life – a deer walked out onto the path in front of them and stayed long enough for filming and photographs. They saw a lizard which was about a foot long and then the rain came!

At one point they stood for ages waiting to film the lightening but it never happened. So of course we have a lot of film of a rock and a bit of sky – some things never change.

Suffice to say the Canyon was awesome!
