Gunpowder and Bricks

Yesterday was a spectacular day out. After bumbling about in the morning we went to Gunpowder Falls River where we collected a large rubber ring each and drove up river and launched ourselves at the side of a bridge. We bobbed along for about 3 hours, moving from bright bright sunshine into cooling shade as we went along. We spotted lovely birds and picked rasberries on the way and just to make everyone jealous Chris spotted a mink on the bank who dived into the water, swam across in front of us and climbed up the far bank! Soooo Cool.

In the evening we went to the Harbour at Canton to a crab speciality restaurant called Bo Bricks. Maryland is famous for fantastic crabs. the table was covered in 3 sheets of brown paper - which gave an indication of what was to come. We had a dozen crabs between us. they dumped them on the table and gave us a little mallet each and off we went - Joan showed us the order in which we had to eat them; claws first and then the main bit!! THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. They will certainly be on the menu at Maerdy Bach when we get home BUT they will have to be as absolutely fresh as those!!!

Today unfortunately we had to leave such afantastic welcome and all the fun and branch out on our own. We did about 200 miles with loads of stops, picking up a Pit Beef roll in a little town called Boonsboro was a highlight. We were eventually exhausted near Morgantown and stopped in a Econolodge Hotel which I will not write about - but don't stay in one!!!
