The Great Salt Plains Day 2

2nd Day by the Salt Plains Lake. We went off this morning and decided to do one of the trails down to the lake. We got out of the car and started off down the path only to be mugged by a million mosquitoes! We ran back to the car and killed all we could get to!! Next stop the What Knot Cabin for some 25% Deet spray. We then made our way to the nature trail and walked about a mile, weaving in and out of the trees and ending up on an escarpment overlooking the lake. There were loads of different Dragon Flies and Damsel Flies. One locust made us jump when he flew across in front of our faces making a clacking noise.

From there we went down to the sandy beach and had a swim, I wasn't looking forward to it as the lake is very brown and muddy but when we got into the water it was like a hot bath, even though the colour made you think that everyone else in the family had bathed first!!! The weather was glorious. 99 degrees when we got back to the car.

Did a car trail and Mike Chris and Ffi went back on the crystal hunt, they found nothing, we must have been in the right place last night as we found loads - giving them as presents!!!

In the evening we went up to the car trail at dusk hoping to see some animals. Mike got a bit over-enthusiastic and got pulled by the law, Assistant Chief C. Ferrel reckoned he was doing 50 in a 30 zone. He looked like he had his girlfriend in the car with him. He checked Mike out and then gave him a verbal warning. Obviously because Mike had not used the Chris Jenkins approach to the police! We got lucky and saw quite a few deer on the track and in the woods nothing else appart from some huge birds; Ibis, Heron and some raptors of some kind. All in all a great day.
